My One Day at Outside Lands 2016
No place like beautiful San Franciso
Every year in early August beautiful Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California is transformed into the one and only Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Friday and was also thrilled to introduce my mother to her very first large scale festival experience.
Outside Lands prides itself in its ability to deliver diverse lineups across 7 musical areas throughout the park. From the 80’s rock band Duran Duran, to LCD Soundsystem, Grimes, J Cole, and some of the newest rising stars of the EDM realm; this event has something to please everyone’s musical palette. One of EDM’s blossoming artists, Tokimonsta, took the stage at Panhandle as loyal fans bobbed their heads to the sounds of hip hop infused electronica.
The fog rolled in during the afternoon hours but was no match for the tropics as Thomas Jack graced the stage at Twin Peaks stage while delivering the intoxicating melodies of tropical house to the masses. Smiles abounded and the vibes were right as the house music brought the crowd together much like it always does. Our musical tour of Outside Lands ended fittingly at the Lands End stage where Duran Duran delivered a timeless performance that included many of their staple hits from the 80’s as well as some of their newer releases.
Though only a day there, Outside Lands beautifully captured and displayed the diversity of the city of San Francisco and its people. From the diversity of music across 7 unique musical areas, to the countless food booths showcasing some of the city’s best eats, and the art installations that caught our eyes around nearly every corner we took as this event has a little something for every walk of life and all age ranges. If you didn’t happen to find yourself at Outside Lands this year, I would highly consider being among the magic comes next August.
