The Bay Area sure knows how to party

As thousands piled into the stadium ready for a turn up before the NFL’s big game. Opening up for this year’s Super Bowl and Northern California festival season was SuperCity 50.  This 1-day electronic music festival brought to you by Bay Area Staple World Town Inc. and Midnite Events rocked the Oakland Coliseum to its core with bass.  Knowing this was the first time they were doing such a large event, I went into it without any expectations and was gratuitously surprised by the turn out.  Tickets offered for the festival included floor, bowl, and VIP tickets.  Floor had access to both bowl and floor, where bowl was locked into the seating area, and VIP had access to both floor, bowl, and a VIP lounge which also included an express entrance and goodie bags.

Gracing the main stage were marquee names Showtek, Diplo, Chromeo, Alesso, The Chainsmokers, Chuckie, Alexx Adam and K Theory to name a few. They had the party bumping all throughout the day and into the night. Whispers were going around about who would make special appearances at this festival, as some heard that Diplo would bring Skrillex, DJ Snake, or Biebs to the show, but instead we got E-40 out in Oakland getting a lil hyphy with the rest of the Bay Area peeps to close out his set. T.I. was also in attendance but just as a guest. And last, Alesso closed out with a classic big room house set, making it hard to leave at 10 pm as we wanted to party on harder (thank God for after parties).

With the good comes the bad as Super City didn’t go off without a hitch. There were a few problems such as disorganization and “false advertising”. Many who bought into the VIP tickets did not get

what they had paid for.  The “red carpet” experience at the VIP entrance did not happen, gift bags ran out, the line shut down making the VIP line move to the GA entrance, and the lounge was a 100% disappointment as you could not see the main stage from it and overcrowded.  The gift bags that were supposed to include exclusive merchandising from artists was merely a light up wristbands which they ran out of.

Besides the problems with Ticket Galaxy and their VIP accommodation, the show carried itself through the music. It was so wild that one fan even switched to his birthday suit as he wrestled with security. As expected a statement was released on their Facebook page concerning some hiccups but let’s carry on folks as their Summer Festival should outdo Super City 50.
